Adrián Froufe is a spanish product designer based in Milan (Italy) and here is his Product Design BA Final Project. “100×100 is a brand dedicated to organic food that seeks to create links between rural producers and urban consumers and tries to improve the quality of the products we consume in our day to day lives. In addition, we have tought to give this brand a new and attractive aesthetic component that breaks with the classic image of organic and environmentally friendly products. All packaging of 100×100, except for the obvious elements, is made of the same material: corrugated cardboard, to which the seeds of various herbs are added in the manufacturing process. When the container is no longer useful, it can be planted and the seeds will sproud. Thus, the idea of recycling takes on a different dimension to the traditional: From our waste we can generate life.” Made with the assistance of Frédéric Misik. Developed in collaboration with Commune Design and handmade by Valerie Confections. The packaging, a simple cardboard box, grew from the idea of the chocolates as actual tiles. Fortuitously, the box selected holds 49 pieces of the chocolate, the result of squaring a prime number, 7. Blend It from Israel made branding and design for the Golan Brewery. In the first picture you see a clever secondary package which looks like they made of one piece cardboard. Here is the story about the project “The Golan Brewery was launched as a joint venture by the Ohayon family and the Golan Heights Winery. Located in Katzrin, the brewery produces beer of an international caliber. In our search for a design concept, we engaged in a dialogue between the local and the sophisticated, the masculine and the liberated, and the rugged and the cultured.”

Starbuck’s cup recycling program

Starbucks has a goal to develop a comprehensive recyclable cup solution by 2012. Today Starbuck´s cups can only be recycled and composted in some communities – far from all. Therefore they have now initiated a cup-recycling program in cooperation with Global Green USA´s Coalition for Resource Recovery. It´s a pilot to test the collection and recycling of…

Starbucks has a goal to develop a comprehensive recyclable cup solution by 2012. Today Starbuck´s cups can only be recycled and composted in some communities – far from all. Therefore they have now initiated a cup-recycling program in cooperation with Global Green USA´s Coalition for Resource Recovery. It´s a pilot to test the collection and recycling of coffee cups when combined with old corrugated cardboard, which should be the most extensively recycled material in the U.S. They are looking over the entire system; material usage and design of cups as well as logistic and how to collect them after usage. Pratts Sustainable Design Incubator has helped them with the guidelines. It´s great that a big company like this is investing in this and hopefully giving new opportunities to the entire coffee shop market. Read more on Greener Package
